gemiusHeatMap - Help

Ribbon menu - Settings

  • Start With - This is where you enter the address of the web site that will be automatically displayed upon start-up.

Clicking this icon will select a blank page as the starting page.

This icon sets the current page as the starting page.

  • Disable Flash Animations and Pop-Ups - If this option has been selected, gemiusHeatMap blocks Flash animations or pop-ups, which, in some cases, considerably boosts application performance.
  • React on Document Content Changes - Turning on this option causes statistics to be reloaded every time the application detects changes on the page. This feature should be turned off for most web pages. But it is useful if you are viewing pages whose content is quickly refreshed using AJAX or a similar technology.
  • Distinguish Links - Choosing this option (a default setting) causes different links pointing to the same target to be processed separately. In other words, a text-based link and a image-based link pointing to the same target will be handled separately.
  • Aggregate Links - Links pointing to the same target are processed together.
  • Show All Info - When this option is turned on, if you move your mouse cursor over a link, a table will appear beside the link, containing click count and visitor count data relating to all time periods handled by the application.

Turning off this option will cause the application to display data only for the active time period.

  • Duplicate Links - This feature is activated if, on a single web page there are a number of identical links (with identical text, identical ALT) leading to the same location. In this case, the application does not differentiate between the links, and by default, displays the same data beside the links – aggregated results for all identical links. If you turn off this option, results only for the first link will be displayed.
  • Coloring

- Highlight - Clicking the coloured rectangle displays the colour selection menu, where the current link highlight colour (Current Colour) can be changed to another, colour to ensure better colour visibility in the website being viewed.

- Selection - This menu is similar to the above menu; however, it concerns the link highlight colour selected in the statistics and ranking window.

- Linear Coloring Model - The hue of the colour of highlight is determined in accordance with a linear model. It is an adequate setting for pages with links having uniformly distributed popularity. However, this setting is not recommended for websites with links that have each received markedly different number of clicks (where there is one link that has been clicked a thousand times, and the other links that have received few visits – in such a case the highlight of the less popular links is barely visible).

- Piecewise Linear Colouring - If this option is selected, links are more uniformly hued. It is the default setting.

  • Proxy settings - Some corporate networks require that the Internet should be accessed through proxy servers. If this is the case, the proxy server options must be set before logging into the system for the first time, by clicking the Network settings button on the login screen.

The following menu will appear:

By default, the direct connection option is selected, that is Do not use a proxy server. You can choose to Use Internet Explorer’s system-wide proxy settings or enter your Custom proxy settings.
