Gemius to research Ukrainian Internet market

Gemius currently developing its business activity on twenty markets has won a tender for measuring the Ukrainian Internet audience. From now on, Gemius will conduct the gemiusAudience study, and become the Internet currency in Ukraine.

At the beginning of this year the Ukrainian Association of Internet Advertisement (UAIA) proclaimed a tender for research of the online audience in Ukraine. Among the companies which participated in the bidding were: GfK, TNS, Nielsen/NetRatings, COMCON, Gemius SA, and others. On 19 September 2008 UAIA officially announced its decision that Gemius SA is the winner of the online part of the measurement and Gfk will be responsible for delivering establishment survey.

 “The main goal of the bidding was to form a complete portrait of Ukrainian Internet users presenting the number of real people visiting web sites, their socio-demographic characteristics, and types of Internet recourses the most interesting for Ukrainian audience. In order to meeting the needs of the Ukrainian Internet market, the gemiusAudience research realised by Gemius will provide information on trends concerning the web site usage, online services and traffic generated on the researched web pages,” – said Andriej Zablotski, Director of UAIA.

 “The Ukrainian online advertising market is yet in the early stages of development and its potential is not entirely used by advertisers,” – says Dmytro Lysiuk, Operations Director at Gemius Ukraine. – In 2007 the online advertising shares in total advertising budgets amounted to approximately 0.7%. The total Ukrainian Internet advertising market constituted to about 12 mln USD last year. However, by the end of 2008 it is going to reach approximately 20 mln USD and introducing one currency in the measurement of online media can stimulate this growth even more”.

 “Founding the UAIA and the organisation of a tender for Internet audience measurement will speed up the development of the online market in this country in many ways: technological, creative, marketing, size, transparency and civilisation. So far the Internet was not taken seriously into account by the main advertisers in Ukraine. A new standard of online media planning, based on socio-demography will make the market more transparent for the biggest advertisers and encourage new players to join the Internet advertising market.” – adds Filip Pieczyński, International Operations Director at Gemius SA.
