gIA: Significant rise in the visitor number of news sites
2008-05-23
2008-05-22According to the results of gemius/Ipsos Audience research — conducted by Gemius and Szonda Ipsos — the visitor number of news portal have risen significantly in March. While the 10 biggest news sites had 1,08 million visitors in February, this number went up to 1,2 million in March. The biggest change was measured at ma.hu site, but others like hirszerzo.hu and hirstart.hu could also attract more visitors. The largest number of page views, 20 million, has been recorded at hirkereso.hu web page, but hirstart.hu also had more than 10 million views in both months.
Taking into account the 30 most visited web sites in March, the following ones showed a major growth: myvip.com, blog.hu, g-portal.hu, hotdog.hu and sg.hu.
The gIA measurement is such a new tool for the online market which makes available the domestic visitor numbers of all relevant web site, including not only the bigger Hungarian sites but also international ones, too. An important difference compared to other data being available for the market before is that the measurement is based on domains in first place and ranks these independently (for example index.hu and totalcar.hu, or origo.hu and mfor.hu are handled separately). But web sites can be grouped together by users who work with the research data into thematic groups or sales networks.
Complete market information is ensured by gIA by combining two measurement methods and by the possibility of detailed analysis of web pages both in terms of traffic and socio-demographic data. With the help of more than 3 500 software panel members all relevant web sites can be measured, while the site-centric approach used by more and more publishers (utilizing a so-called “cookie panel” with more than 50 000 members) makes available extremely detailed analyses. The unique set of data about the whole market that is not available anywhere else helps not only business development but also media planning. This is proven by the fact that in 2008 many new agencies and publishers became partners and subscribers of the Audience project, like Carnation, HVG Online, Kirowski, Mediaedge:cia, Neo Interactive and OMD.
