Searching information on the Internet by Czech users

Information most often searched on the Internet by Czech users concern e-shops and mobile communications. For more and more Czech users Internet has become a source for information about products, mostly electronics and electrical and domestic appliances.

The following data is the result of the Internet survey "NetMonitorConsumer", conducted by Gemius and Mediaresearch on the sample of 1400 Czech respondents, aged 15 years or older. This panel study was repeated regularly and took place in October 2005, at the turn of February and March 2006 and in the middle of June 2006. Internet users involved in the research are likewise taking part in the NetMonitor - online audience measurement of the Czech Internet users done by Gemius in cooperation with Mediaresearch for SPIR. Netmonitor is the gemiusAudience study, adjusted to the needs of the Czech market, which is a fusion of a pop-up and software panel methodology, both created and owned by Gemius S.A.

What information has been searched the most frequently on the Internet by Czech users?

The most frequent topics searched on the Internet in the last researched period (June 2006) were traveling, e-shops, and information about products (respectively 64%, 62.4% and 53,4% of indications), the least popular subject "googled" was cooking and recipes (mentioned by 27,1%of the respondents). Among women top 3 topics were: traveling (73.1% of women respondents), e-shops (57.6%) and publicity (52,4%), whereas male respondents most often claimed that they had been looking for information about e-shops (66.5%), computers, computer games, software (66.3%) and product data (60.1%). On the other hand the lowest number of indications was given to sport in the female group of respondents (24.6%), and to cooking and recipes amidst men (14.1% of male respondents).

Information about what products has been most often looked for on the Internet?

The highest number of Internet users searched for information about products from the following categories: electronics as well as domestic and electrical appliances (respectively 75% and 65%of the respondents). There is a noticeable drop-down tendency and a decrease recorded in the recent researched period of time was -9,5%, in electronics, -7,5% concerning appliances and -3,3% in auto-moto products. On the contrary, a slight increase was recorded in cosmetics (+6.1%) and clothing (+2.9%). Such a trend was caused mostly by summer and the holiday season. Consequently Internet users focused their interest more to seasonal goods in the recently researched period of time.
